Green Building Compliant Ice Melt

In order to receive a LEED credit, the product must meet one of two options. It must only use deicers that contain 100% calcium magnesium acetate (CMA), or it must show that environmentally preferred deicers were used at least 20% of the time during the performance period.

What Counts as an Environmentally Preferable Deicer?

Basically, anything that contains less than 5% sodium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, potassium acetate, ammonia-based products, and ferrocyanide products. Some manufacturers try to mislead consumers into thinking their salt-based products meet LEED standards, but this is not the case. Only products that meet one of the two options mentioned earlier will qualify for a LEED credit.

Winter Warrior CMA Icemelter is Easy to Apply

Winter Warrior’s CMA ice melt product can be applied in its solid pellet form or can be made into a liquid. In pellet format, this ice melt should be applied at a rate of 15-20 lbs. per 1,000 square feet (75-100 g/m²). It can also be mixed with salt and sand.

To convert the product into a liquid, dilute 25% product into 75% water. CMA in liquid form is often used as deicer.
